From November 1941 to July, 1942, the author was Captain of the Corvette HMS Guillemot whose First Lieutenant was Nicholas Monsarrat.
Foreword by Ann Monsarrat (widow of Nicolas Monsarrat under whom the author served) Captain Lombard-Hobson joined the Royal Navy in 1930. During World War II he served at Dunkirk and in the Mediterranean.
