Battle of the April Storm (1970) By Larry Forrester
A truly gripping story, although it is a fictional novel, it is based on the real life battle between the German cruiser Admiral Hipper and the small (by comparison) destroyer HMS Glowworm. A one-sided affair in terms of the firepower, but a gallant attempt at stopping the Hipper from reaching the shores of Norway and landing a large attacking force. The descriptive passages concerning the final battle, from the viewpoint of the officers and crew of both vessels, is amazing and one is transported into the teeth of the action, evoking the full horror and emotions of sea-warfare.
