This book was published in 1985 in celebration of the 70th annivesary of the Gallipoli campaign; a grand design which became a tragedy for the Allies. Gallipoli was the fountain from which sprang the modern states of Australia, New Zealand and Turkey - a politically coceived lilitary adventure, which brought a quarter of a million casualties to each side and generated, not hatred, but deep respect betweenadversaries. It is ironic and fortunate that the inefficiency of the 1915 security measures to prevent the use of private cameras, the keeping of diaries and adequately censor letters has allowed the accumulation of a rich source of evidence. The photographs,diary entries, letters and cartooins reproduced here, almost all published for the first time, show with new clarity the personal realities of an extraordinary campaign through "1915 eyes"
