After Headhunters came out, Brennan continued to get extraordinary stories from other men from the First of the Ninth pilots (not well represented previously), gunners, scouts, a medic, a photographer, from all ranks warrant officer, sergeants, a major, a captain, a lieutenant. Their stories were too important not to publish. Important battles from many points of view make up some of the best accounts of what fighting in Vietnam was all about.
 
Each contributor was there on the Cambodian border, in Chu Lai, over the Ia Drang valley and each relives the excitement that the adrenaline rush brings, and the terror of the war experience. The reader is witness to the first "kill," to the impact of a sudden death to a comrade. This immediacy combined with the perspective that time has brought to the writers gives the book its power.
