Sinister Service: The adventures of Lance Lovell, Counter-espionage officer, told by his brother and unofficial assistant, Rodney Lovell (1949) By Captain W.E. Johns

Sinister Service by W. E. Johns was first published in 1942 by Oxford University Press. OUP subsequently brought out a reprint in 1949. The title page of the 1st ed. carries the subtitle: "The Adventures of Lance Lovell, Counter-espionage Officer, Told by his Brother and Unofficial Assistant, Rodney Lovell", set down by Captain W. E. Johns, illustrations by Stuart Tresilian.

The events in the book take place in Britain and then in Germany in the early part of the Second World War.

In 1975, French publisher Aredit published a two-part comic strip adaptation of the story entitled Un voyage interrompu and Mission secrète in their small format comic series for girls Tina, in issues 68 (April 1975) and 69 (June 1975). These were faithful adaptations of the original Sinister Service stories except that the characters of Lance and Rodney Lovell had been replaced with Worrals and Frecks!
