Robert Lowry is uniquely qualified to write this book. An Indonesian linguist, he is a graduate of the Indonesian Army Command and Staff College, Bandung. As a member of the Regular Army, he has served in South Vietnam, Singapore, and Indonesia. From 1984-86 he was assistant Army and Defence Adviser in Jakarta. Currently visiting fellow at the Australian Defence Studies Centre (Adfa) he is the author of Indonesian Defence Policy (1993), and a number of articles in Studies In Conflict And Terrorism, Peace Research, and Defence Force Journal.
