For the publication of this better edition, sources of information have now been made available which, during the Occupation, it would have been unwise to pursue.
 
While it would be foolish to claim that the Diary includes every incident which occurred during those five years of German Occupation, it may prove a useful reference work, for care has been taken to present a sober, unopinionated statement of bare fact.
