The RAN Sea Power Centre explores, dialogues, and understands maritime issues pertinent to Australia. It enhances strategic thinking by contributing intellectual depth to public discussions on maritime strategy.

In the early 1990s, it originated as the Maritime Studies Project in April 1990, transitioning to the Maritime Studies Program in mid-1991.

In January 2000, it was rebranded as the Royal Navy Sea Power, and later in late 2002, it became the Sea Power Centre - Australia (SPC-A).
